Common Sense Does Not Equal To Your View
Would the world not be sooooo much better if everybody saw it like we did? I mean our point of view is best! Life is relatively good living by our standards so why can people just not play along and do what it is needed to make life better for themselves and the rest of the world?
The truth is, is that we want people to abide by the rules of life that make us happy! No one else but us!
In this episode, Miranda is dating this screenwriter. The sex is amazing but everytime he is done with sex with her, he runs off to the shower. Miranda asks him about it and he says it was just a thing he picked up growing up catholic. So Miranda makes it about herself and that he is wrong because how can he not see the error of what he believes. So she tries to change him and ends up challenging his belief system. This sets him off and he ends up dumping her! Sigh! He was a cutie after all!
I have recently got it that we are all so different after all! We all have our own unique priorities and value systems. These govern our choices our actions and where we give the most attention. The way to get what you want is to inspire someone to align. Inspiration allows us to look at what we believe and make a choice to what is better for us. And the trick is in how you communicate to someone. When you communicate to someone within the framework of their value system or hot buttons, they are more engaged, listen and pay attention.
I have also found that this is one where you have to feel your way through each case that you encounter. I mean was the fact that the man took a shower after sex with her really such a big deal? It was so much about how bad Miranda was feeling about herself. I mean where was the patience from her side to allow him to make his choice. I mean if she just went with the flow, there was always a possibility that she would grow more special in time to him and then maybe he would not see it as a bad thing?
There is a thought out there that the trick is to get into a state of fair exchange. Where what you love giving effortlessly is what the other loves receiving and vice versa. Imagine in that situation that there is no room for compromise or sacrifice as both your needs are being met. And yes, no one is saying that it happens magically but if one could learn the art of communicating what is important to you and the other person getting that, there is definitely room to getting close to that.
So as a start. Try to start understanding the top 3 values of those close to you. Then start working out how you can communicate to them in terms of those top 3 values. I can guarantee that your world will change as a result of that.
